My sister and her family are visiting us this week from Texas! We are so happy to have them here, but we still have to grocery shop! I headed to Pulbix while they visited the Coca Cola Museum!  I had already made my big week purchases before my sis arrived, so I only picked up a couple of the sale items at Publix.

This Crazy Weather

I thought Texas was the only place that it could be 30 degrees one day and 80 the next, but evidently that happens here in Georgia too!  We went from snow to 80 degrees in one week time!

I have been inspired by Michelle at Leaving Excess.  Michelle lives in Minnesota and this past winter she and her family attempted to not turn on their heater until December 1st . . . in Minnesota!  You should read her posts about how they did it, very inspiring!  Now I will be the first to admit that I’m a wimp with the cold weather – I don’t like it!  However, I am from Texas and I can tolerate heat much higher than a mere 80 degrees so I’ve decided to see how long we can go without turning on our air conditioning!  I didn’t exactly call a family meeting to discuss this, but so far no body’s complaining!

This week we’ve done great!  We’ve turned on the ceiling fans and we’ve opened up the windows and it creates a nice breeze through the house.  I can already hear all my friends laughing at me!  I’ve never been a “open the window” kind of person.  About a year ago I was complaining how “closed in” the house was feeling and my friend mentioned that I should open my blinds!  It never occurred to me to do that!  Now I’ve taken it a step further and have actually opened our windows!

We have really neat windows here that open from the top OR the bottom (I now understand that these are “standard” windows in parts of the country, but I had never seen windows like these until we moved to Georgia!).  I’ve opened the windows from the top and I don’t have to worry about the kids leaning on the screens and accidently falling through the window!

I will keep everyone updated on how long we can make it without turning on the air conditioning!

P.S. I’m sure my sister Anne and her family are so happy to be reading this since they are coming to visit us this next week!

An Unexpected Blogging Break

Have you noticed my lack of blog posts? I feel I should explain my recent absence.

Nick has pink eye, in both eyes.  Brad has a stomach virus.  To add to the fun mix, one of Brad’s friends from school has been staying with us because his mom delivered twins last Friday!  Our friend from school has managed to stay healthy, but it has been a chore keeping the 3 boys separated as much as possible!  I am hoping we are back to our routine by tomorrow!  Fun times!

2 Publix Trips this Weekend

I went to Publix twice this past weekend because I had a coupon for Pam Cooking Spray that was going to expire on Saturday night but I also wanted to wait and see what the .01 mystery coupon would be for Sunday/Monday.  To use the mystery coupon, you have to make a $10 purchase so I split my list in half and bought my first half on Saturday so I could use my coupon for Pam spray!

On my first trip I was in the cracker/snack aisle and there was another lady there that stopped me and said “look at this deal! These Keebler crackers are BOGOF and there’s a peelie coupon on the box for $1 off when you buy 2!”  I hadn’t orginially planned on purchasing the crackers because I didn’t have a coupon, but the peelie on the box made them $1.50 each and that’s a great deal!  I totally would have missed this deal if it wasn’t for the angel in the aisle 🙂

Here’s my first trip:

bag-036

  • Pam Spray BOGOF $1.70, less .35 coupon, doubled = $1
  • Betty Crocker Brownie Mix BOGOF $1.35, less .50 coupon, doubled = .35
  • 2 Del Monte Diced Tomatoes BOGOF $1.49, less 2 .40 coupons, doubled = (.11)  yes, that’s correct, Pulbix paid me .11 to take 2 cans of tomatoes off their shelf!!
  • 4 Kellogg Pop Tarts BOGOF, less 2 $1 coupons = .70 each
  • 2 Mueller Spaghetti BOGOF, less .55 coupon = .37 each
  • Large Strawberries $3.29
  • 2 Keebler crackers BOGOF, less $1 coupon = $1.50 each

Total Purchased = $39.60

Total Savings = $28.07

Total OOP = $11.53

Here’s my second trip:

bag-037

The mystery coupon was suppose to be for Publix bath tissue, not very exciting as I’m picky about my toilet paper; however, because of the SNOW the manager at my Publix changed the mystery coupon to Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate!!  Whoo Hoo!!  I drink a cup of  hot chocolate almost everyday (in lieu of coffee) and I’m almost out!

  • Bread $2.69
  • Tortillas $2.09 (no coupon but needed these for dinner this week 🙂
  • Lipton Tea Bags BOGOF = $1.98
  • Cap n’ Crunch BOGOF = $2.25
  • Ground Chuck $1.99/lb
  • Kraft Shredded Cheese = $1.67 each
  • Classico Pasta Sauce BOGOF, less $1 coupon = .74 each
  • Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate, mystery coupon = .01

Total Purchased = $35.80

Total Savings = $16.11

A Snowy Day!

The view from our backyard!

The view from our backyard!

Yes, today is March 1st and it snowed here in the Atlanta area!

It’s been raining since Friday, but as the temperature dropped today the rain turned to snow, it was really coming down for several hours and was very pretty!  The flakes were huge!

It has been in the 50’s here the last couple of days so the snow did not stick to much.  It is suppose to drop down into the 20’s tonight but the wind has picked up also.  Hopefully the wind will dry out the streets so the roads won’t be dangerous in the morning!
